Day 4 - Look to the future - part two

Since yesterdays blog was about where Jill and I expect our future house to be, todays is about what it likely to look like.  Our Realtor happened to be finishing up a house this week that was for the most part the same floor plan we picked out with a few differences here and there. Well when we got there, we were treated to a house that had many treatments that we really liked.

This is the railing to the stairwell. Jill and I both really like the way the rod iron and wood frame looks on a stairwell, and was something we agreed that we would want if we got a new house one of the first times we went looking at homes.

The kitchen/dining bar area.  The buyer here had chosen a laminate countertop that looks a lot like a granite top.  I really like the way it looks with the dark wood trimmings

Another shot of the kitchen, like our current one it has lots of space, maybe not the cabinets, but Jill would get a nice sized pantry in its place

a closer look at the tile, again something we both liked.  I liked the accent trim piece other than the fact it kept the outlet plates from sitting flush. Jill didn't like it too much at all.

Maybe in a few months I can post some more like these that are of our own future home.

Day 3 - look to the future part 1

So today the weather really didn't cooperate much for going and taking photos outside, and nothing too interesting around the house today.  So after lunch while the house was being shown today Jill and I drove out to the development where we are planning to build our new house and I snapped a couple quick shots of the lot. Hopefully by tommorow night we know more about when the house may get started.

day 2 - drive by shooting

So these photos I got during some time I was back at Jills parents just driving around the area and exploring what I don't usually get to see hanging out with the family.  The first is a perspective type shots, I always like these, some are taken on rail road tracks but I found a county road that just didn't look like it got much traffic on it and only had the two wheel trails or ruts there.

I liked the idea of this photo at the Burlington spillway, there were some nice elements, the waterfall, the tree hanging over the edge.  However, my execution wasn't so great, I was a little hamstrung by the timing doing this during the middle of the day around 1pm or so, so the shadows were pretty harsh, and I tried to correct the white balance manually to get some better colors but that didn't work either. I would have liked to have had some more cloud cover or do it closer to dusk, and done a little time lapse to get more of a flowing feel to the water.

This picture, well I literally was driving by and saw this little guy scurrying (as if turtles scurry) across a gravel road.  So I stopped the car and from the drivers seat I took this with a 200mm lens since I wasn't sure if I took the time to change lenses if he'd get going again.

Day 1 - Not a pyro, I promise

So it begins...I am going to start to take at least one photo a day and blog about it.  My goal in this is to try different techniques with my camera, teach myself to compose better photos, and share them with those who read this or are interested. I imagine to start my subjects are going to be reoccurring, from my dogs KC and Breck, to things around my house, and maybe trips to our new home when construction starts.

So for my first day, I waited till the end of the day to even start taking photos to choose from.  These photos of our fire pit I used one of my older zoom lenses, that I rarely use anymore as I prefer my faster prime lenses to do most of my photos with.  The first photo I took with full automatic mode and no post processing.  The lens is a Tamron 28-55mm f/4-5.6.  The second I used the shutter priority mode and set it to open for six seconds, hence the photo appearing to be during the day when it was taken later than the first, and used my handy tripod.
